In 2019/20 stress accounted for 51% of all work related ill health cases (an increase of 15% vs previous year) and 55% of all working days lost to ill health (an increase of 12% vs previous year).

Work based stress is more prevalent in public services industries such as education; health and social care; and public administration and defence, showing higher levels of stress compared to ‘all jobs’.

Total number of work-related stress, anxiety and depression in 2019/20 was 828,000 (an increase of 86% vs previous year), a prevalence rate of 2440 per 100,00 workers.

The total number of working days lost to the condition in 2019/20 was 17.9 million days. This equates to an average of 21.6 days lost per case.
